David Womble replied to Deanna Hartley's discussion Harry Reid Controversy
"No Comrade , not to worry we always sanitize the awkward. Such as the late great Senator from W.Va. Grand Klugle Byrd of the KKK, or the late Senator Gore from Tn. Realize it's not about race anyway, it's about central government control.…"

Ali Muhammad commented on Deanna Hartley's blog post Fostering Diversity at a Price?
"The problem is that as long as we continue to equate diveristy with race, or with a legal requirement to push quotas and affimative employment action, diversity will come at a cost.  However, while diversity is not mutually exclusive of these,…"

Family? No Thanks. I’m Focusing on My Career.

How often have you heard some of your female colleagues make that statement? I’ll confess: I’m one of them.

I’ve been happily married to my college sweetheart since I was 24 — nearly three years ago — but in all honesty, the largest familial responsibility I’m willing and able to take on right now is a dog. Now, I’m not saying that women in the workforce can’t juggle kids and career or that they need to necessarily forego one to fulfill the other, but let’s face reality: Not all… Continue

A Healthy Dose of Discrimination

Do men and women go through the same training in med school? Yes. Do they shell out comparable tuition and are about evenly mired in debt? Most likely. When they step into the workforce, are their starting salaries about the same? Not even close.

A recent article I came across in The Wall Street Journal shared the results of research conducted by the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC): a… Continue

Winning Championships — and Business

Each year in February, myriad celebrations are held around the U.S. and television specials are aired in honor of Black History Month — and this year is no different. Because of this, over the weekend, I had the opportunity to watch the film “Remember the Titans” for the first time.

Forced Out of Work

Not too long ago, one of my closest friends left a semi-frantic voice mail on my phone letting me know that her dad’s job was in jeopardy. Of course, given the backdrop of our struggling economy, many aren’t taken aback by news such as this; in fact, many expect it.

What I didn’t expect, however, was to learn over the course of the next couple of weeks that the primary — if not only — reason was his age. My friend’s dad is in his 50s, and he has worked for and given his blood, sweat…

Employer-Millennial Disconnect

By 2015, millennials will be 45 percent of the workforce; by 2020, this demographic will comprise half of the workforce.

These are a couple of stats I learned during a session at a recent conference led by Karie Willyerd, co-author of The 2020 Workplace. It certainly served as a reminder or catalyst for employers and leaders who aren’t already allocating time and resources to recruiting and developing employees to think long and hard about it.… Continue
