Until we stop tip-toeing around certain prejudices will we be able to heal. Honesty is the best policy, so they say.
*What are you really afraid of?
*What makes you so defensive of others?
*Where did you get that theory that every ........? (Fill in the blank)
Growing up with an "Archie Bunker" grandfather I fought years of discriminating comments made towards those of different color or ethnicity.
To me prejudice is deadly. It does nobody good. We need to learn what a prejudice felt like from our past experiences. At one time or another you might have been left out of an event or felt like an outsider in amongst your peers, family members, or colleagues. What's stopping you from learning and behaving in a more diverse and inclusive manner?

Your are a 100% right prejudice is deadly. To the person that harbors it and the person it is being directed to. Lucky for me I grew multicultural. I often read about it growing up, I only experienced it when I migrated to this country at age 18, I already grow up my rudimentary teachings of diversity/multicultural competence. I often find my self walking away from individuals who engages in any form of discrimation. Individuals can free themselves from prejudice, it depends on the individuals and the burning desire to change and grow.
Thank you Jacqueline for responding and agreeing with me. I just don't get it why some people just can't get along. We breath the same air, walk the same earth, and there's plenty of space to do it in...so what's the problem?
Good for you, walking away from such ignorance! At some point I will have the courage to simply confront those that shows prejudice towards others. Maybe I'll ask one of my questions I posted earlier, "What are you really afraid of?" or does everyone have to be as stylish (?) or where the same 'do' as you? It's ridiculous!
Not that I've been approached or has someone stated to me personally, but I've been the victim of those not liking what I'm wearing or the hairdo I sport and I really could care less. It doesn't help the cause of being diversity driven if you're going to go out of your way to lure alias to support their prejudices.

Where did you reside, prior to moving to the U.S.?

Bev Votta, I was born in Trinidad (Republic of Trinidad & Tobago, West Indies) I lived in New York for a few years, before moving to New Jersey. I have been involved in a number of diverse employment situations, including my own business. I have had offers from relatives to live else where. I choose the greatest country in the world, at age 18, in spite of all that goes on in this country, this is still the greatest country to live in. I am proud to say I made the right decision.
And we're glad you did! What an exciting life you've led, traveling and experiencing differing lifestyles. I hope I can get the chance to travel more, so as to learn more from others.
